Umat mengenalnya sebagai Ustadz Cepot. Julukan itu muncul karena kekhasan wajah dan karakter jenakanya dalam berdakwah.

beliau mengawali pendidikan agamanya di Darurrahman Jakarta, sebuah pesantren asuhan KH. Syukron Ma’mun.

Disinilah disiplin ilmu agama dan pengembangan dirinya dimulai. Kemudian ia lanjutkan kepesantren Al-Makmur Kota Tangerang.

Pria kelahiranTangerang, 9 April 1958 ini menempuh pendidikan S1 di UIN Bandung pada Fakultas Tarbiyah.
